- Celebrate Independence Day at Nephi City Park
Independence Day, a Fourth of July Celebration in the Nephi City Park is upon us! Check out our official website at http://www.NephiIndependence.com. Then come and be a part of a glorious day filled with a variety of activities. Join with us in great appreciation of all who have come before us and all those who now are doing their part to serve our great nation.
"We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, ensure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty, to ourselves and our posterity; do ordain and establish this Constitution of the United States of America." Thus reads the Preamble to the Constitution; most powerful words to a proven document that has withstood the test of time. Bringing it about required the sacrifice and commitment of many of our founding heroes. May we study them out, talk about them to our children, and always remember to honor their significant contributions. In fact, may we celebrate our independence!
Start off early with breakfast at 7:00 a.m. The cost is $5 for adults and $4 for kids. Then take some time to browse the Veteran's Memorial which will be on display throughout the day. If given the opportunity, tell a veteran thank you.
Attention all sports enthusiasts! Sign-ups for all teams or individual sports will begin at 8:00 a.m. at the ticket booth and will stay open until just prior to start time of each game: i.e.; 3 on 3 Basketball begins at 9:00, HORSE begins at 11:00, and Dodge Ball at 12:30. The 3 on 3 Basketball has a cost of $10 per player and either 3 or 4 players per team are permitted. HORSE is $3 per player. Dodge Ball costs $30 per team, has 6 players per team, and will be divided into three age categories: 13 and under; 14 through 18, 16 and up. Get your teams together now for a great competition.
The Country Store opens at 9:00 a.m. with plenty of baked goods and handmade items for sale which have been generously donated by members of the Nephi North Stake.
At 9:45 Opening Prayer and a Flag Raising Ceremony provides a chance to remember all the gratitude you feel. Help set Independence Day off to a wonderful beginning.
At 10:00 a.m., the Quilt Auction begins with the workmanship of Nephi North Stake Relief Society sisters displayed and then auctioned off to the highest bidder. Be prepared to be generous. All proceeds from the sale will go to the Scouting program, Young Women, and the Stake.
Children can party to their heart's content with the rides and games going on from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A fishing pond, sucker tree, train ride, merry-go-round, super slide and so much more will delight them for hours.
After a few rides and games, it may seem your breakfast has seriously disappeared. If so, the hamburger stand will be open from 11:00 till 3:00 p.m. There will be plenty of trimmings for the burgers, and ice cold beverages for sale. Remember to protect yourself and your children in the heat; be sure keep hydrated. Look for water stands all around the park.
What's next on the list? Don't miss the scones and honey butter, as well as watermelon (another great hydrator) which are available at noon.
A Live Auction of donated items will be held from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. Then at 2:30 till 4:00 p.m. a Music and Variety Show takes center stage. So much fun has occurred throughout the day, and still we are awaiting the main event.
Finally, at dusk, what we have anticipated for months is here: Nephi City Fireworks at the JHS Football field. As we watch them explode in splendor, perhaps we might take a moment to remember that the signing of the Constitution was so meaningful to Benjamin Franklin that James Madison recorded, "The old man wept." We might pause a moment between breaths, let the glory of the sacrifices of so many burst within our own souls, and then vow this day to live just a little bit better.
