Merle Whiting was born January 20, 1927 in Nephi Utah. The second eldest of eleven children passed away on May 17, 2013 from cancer.
Merle was a proud career military man beginning at age 17 in the Navy, then serving twenty-one years in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Hawaii, Japan, Germany, France, Korea and Vietnam. After retiring from the military, Merle worked for fifteen years for the Sacramento Army Depot as a weapons inspector. After retiring from the Sacramento Army Depot he worked at Northminster Presbyterian Church for fifteen years as the custodian. He was an avid gardener and that was reflected in his garden, but his first passion was always his wife and family.
Over the years Merle looked forward to his many trips back home to Nephi to visit his family and cherished the memories there.
Merle Whiting was preceded in death by his loving wife Elizabeth Whiting, parents Anna Lena Nelson Whiting and Edward Whiting, Brother/Sister-in-law, Oris Whiting, Helen Whiting, Brother/Sister-In-law, Glen Whiting, Connie Whiting, sister, Ruby Whiting, Brother-in-law/Sister, Ellis Green, Selma Green Whiting , Brother-in-Law, Dewy Hanks.
He is survived by his son, William Whiting and partner Eric Keith, daughter, Michelle Skinner and son in law Douglas Skinner and two grandchildren, Maxwell and McKenna, all of California, favorite niece, Kaylynn Whiting Strong of Palo Alto, Delores Hanks, Delose (Pat)Whiting, Norman (Rose)Whiting, Blaine Carol Whiting, Raymond (Claudia) Whiting, Bud (Karen Marie)Whiting, and many nephews and nieces.
His memorial service will be held Sat. July 6th at 10am at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 3235 Pope Avenue, Sacramento, Ca 95821. In leiu of flowers, donations can be made to the Northminster Presbyterian Church.
His smile will be missed and remembered by all of us.
Richard (Dick) Christensen
Richard Henry Christensen the son of Dan (Joan) Oliver Christensen and Marylynn Roberts and beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away on June 30th due to complications from a horseback riding accident.
He is survived by his soul mate of 39 years Christine (Yates) Christensen, his son Hadley (Stephanie) Christensen, his daughters Robbie (Shay) Cowan and Mandy (Joshua) Paxman, and his 8 granddaughters and 2 grandsons. His brothers Dan (Wendy) Christensen and Brent Christensen, and sisters Gin (Paul) Manning and Susan (Benny) Peart.
Proceeded in death by his mother Marylynn.
His funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013 in the Goshen LDS Stake Center 70 South Center Street. Family and friends may call Friday evening from 6-8 pm at the church and Saturday one hour prior to the services.
