Susan and Blake Garrett

Blake is a life-long resident of Nephi. His ancestors helped settle this valley. His roots run deep in this community. Blake grew up working on the family farm. Farming is in his blood. After returning from serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Japan, he attended BYU where he met his sweetheart Susan Finch. They married and built their home close to the family farm.

For 26 years, Blake worked for Jenkin’s Sales and Service where he served farmers in Juab County as well as farmers from surrounding communities. He cherishes the friendships that were made during those years.

Blake has also been actively involved in a variety of organizations that are related to agriculture.  He has been a member of Farm Bureau for over 20 years. He has served with the Juab Livestock Association and the Nephi Irrigation Company. He has been a member of the Farm Service Agency as well as on the soil conservation board. He has been a dedicated farmer and rancher throughout his life. He has also served in a variety of callings in his church—including bishoprics and branch presidencies.

Susan was born and raised on a farm in West Mountain, just outside of Payson. She has lived in Nephi since their marriage. She graduated from BYU with her Elementary Education degree. She taught 2nd and 3rd grade for 23 years in Nephi. Susan loves children and was a dedicated teacher. When she wasn’t teaching at the school, she was interacting with kids in other ways. She served as a Boy Scout leader for a number of years, and she also worked as a private tutor. Susan has also been a member of Farm Bureau for over 20 years and continues to serve on the women’s committee, putting together and presenting Farm Field Days for the local elementary schools. Susan has also served in a variety of callings at church, including Primary president and Relief Society president.

Blake and Susan have six children: Wade (Mandi) Garrett of Nephi, Jason (Liesl) Garrett of Nephi, Bart (Allegra) Garrett of Nephi, Kayleen (Brant) McKeachnie of Vernal, Devin (Megan) Garrett of Nephi, and Craig (Kristine) Garrett of Nephi. They adore their 20 grandchildren and are so grateful to have so much family so close by.

Aside from working on the family farm and spending cherished time with family, Blake and Susan love serving as temple workers at the Payson Temple. They feel very blessed to live in a great community with so many friends, to have raised their children here with so many positive influences, and to be a part of the rich traditions our community has to offer. There is no place they would rather be.
