Angus H. Belliston
1932 - 2018

Angus Henry Belliston, 86, of Springville, Utah, died peacefully at home on Friday, November 2, 2018, surrounded by his family.

Born April 17, 1932, in Nephi, Utah, Angus was the only son of his mother, Elsie Maughan Belliston, and the sixth child of his father, Albert Henry Belliston.  It was a difficult birth and he was not expected to survive, but he did and went on to live a rich and wonderful life.

Angus grew up in Nephi, with the exception of two years in Hawaii, while his father served as president of the Hawaii Temple. They were there when the bombs were dropped on Pearl Harbor, and as a nine-year-old Cub Scout, he was given nightly guard duty on the streets of Laie. His years in Hawaii were important years that impacted his entire life for good and where many lifetime friendships were created. Angus was student body president and an All-State basketball player at Juab High School. It was there he met his high school sweetheart and future wife, Marcelle Greenhalgh, who he married in the Salt Lake Temple, September 5, 1951. They are the parents of seven children.

Angus graduated from the University of Utah in banking and finance, and enjoyed a long and successful banking career, primarily with Zions Bank, enjoying rewarding associations with many fine people. The family lived in Bountiful and Salina, before settling in Provo in 1971. After 40 years of marriage, Marcelle died in March 1991, following a long fight with cancer. Following her death, Angus married Ruth Eleanor “Jenny” Jones Frederick on December 27, 1991, in the Salt Lake Temple. She died in April 2011. He married Christi Allen Wells on September 27, 2014, in the Provo Temple.

Angus was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was tireless in his service and devotion.  No satisfaction in his professional career ever took priority over his family and church service. Throughout the years, he served in many capacities including bishop, stake president, regional representative, and temple sealer. He was also deeply involved with the Scouting program and was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. With his wife, Jenny, he served as president of the Brisbane Australia Mission from 1995 to 1998. They also served in the Provo and Nauvoo Temple presidencies. Angus held many civic positions, and served as chair of the Snow College Institutional Council and as National President of Sons of Utah Pioneers.

Angus has been an influence for good in countless lives, and made friends wherever he went all over the globe. He was a kind, caring, and wise husband, father, and grandfather. He will be remembered for his unfailing good humor, his humility, and his generosity. He stood for the right in all places, at all times. To lose such a great man might be considered by some to be a terrible loss, but for us, his loving family, we are simply grateful for his good and honorable life. He has fought a good fight, he has finished the course, he has kept the faith. What a legacy he leaves behind!

Angus is survived by his wife Christi, and his seven children: Camille Dowler, Anne (Wes) Curtis, Janine (Eric) Ruff, James (Robin), Carl (Michelle), Kathryn (Michel) Bened, Nathan (Aimee). He is also survived by Jenny’s and Christi’s children, who he loved as his own: Jan (Rick) Adams, Shauna (Kip) Kemple, Bruce (Kate) Frederick, and Matt (Erin) Frederick, and Tina (John) Ellis, Richard (Dina) Wells, Daniel (Kaylene) Wells, Kelli (Roger) Proctor, Elizabeth Shollenberger, and Joseph (Gloriana) Wells.

The funeral will be held Monday, November 12, at 11 a.m. at the Kolob 12th Ward building, 1627 W. Cadbury Lane (1200 So.), Springville, Utah, with visitations Sunday, November 11, 6-8 p.m. and Monday prior to the funeral, from 9-10:30, at the same address. Interment in the Vine Bluff Cemetery, Nephi, Utah, 3 p.m.
