At the Juab School District Board meeting held on Wednesday, two board members took the oath of office administered by Darin Clark, district business administrator.

Sworn-in were Linda Hanks and Hollie Holman.

Following the ceremony, Dale Whitlock (District 2), as president of the board, called for nominations for the president of the board for 2023.

“I have been board president for eight years,” said Whitlock.

While it had been enjoyable, it was time to give another board member the opportunity to hold that position.

“I nominate Linda Hanks for the position of board president,” he said.

There were no other nominations so Hanks was declared president by acclamation.

Whitlock then called for nominations for board vice-president, a position formerly held by Tracy Olsen.

“I nominate Cassandra Beutler, Mona, for the position of vice-president,” said Whitlock.

Beutler represents District 1.

There were no further nominations so Beutler was elected by acclamation.

“I do appreciate your confidence,” said Hanks.

Beutler said she was also appreciative of being selected as vice-president.

Hanks began serving on the Juab School District Board of Education in January 2011, and has served 12 years. Reelected for another four year term in November, she is also the Immediate Past President of the Utah School Boards Association. She is married to John Hanks, is a mother, an educator, is the current Juab School District Board President, is the USBA (Utah School Boards Association) Past-President, is Chair-Elect PAC for National School Board Association.

Holman, elected to represent District 4, defeated Tracy Olsen, long-time board member, in the November election. She is a former 16-year educator and is currently a real estate agent. She has also been involved in coaching. She is the wife of Dr. Joel Holman.

According to state code: “local school boards shall elect a president and a vice president whose terms of office are for two years and until their successors are elected.

“The elections shall be held during the first local school board meeting in January following a regular local school board election held in the district.”
